Friends of Westchester Ridge

Westchester Ridge is a community-oriented neighborhood and we rely on many volunteers to foster community growth and provide the extras that may not be covered by the homeowner's association dues due to the added expense for services. In July of 2022, a new "Friends of Westchester Ridge" group was created to assist with matching residents with various neighborhood projects.

You can help through volunteering your time which saves money, helps improve our neighborhood and helps keep our costs as reasonable as possible. Please contact the neighborhood HOA prior to volunteering to ensure the HOA is overseeing the projects to coordinate what is being done. Any damage caused on purpose or inadvertently due to not first seeking pre-approval from the HOA can result in liability to the person/s who caused the damage.

Individuals, families and groups are all welcome to participate as Friends of Westchester Ridge.

Thank you for considering helping and a huge thank you to those who have already donated their time.

Areas where volunteers are very much appreciated include:

The Front Entrance

Maintaining the garden beds and hand-pulling invasive thistles from the junipers are very much appreciated through volunteers.

Thistles are very expensive to treat because they require professional applications of specialized chemicals to kill the thistle, yet not kill the junipers and other plants. Pulling the thistles by hand is the current method of thistle control.

Our neighborhood's turf in the common areas is professionally treated for fertilization/weeds six times per season. However, the vendor does not pull weeds in the garden beds or under the trees as part of the weekly maintenance plan because it is cost-prohibitive for the HOA to pay for the time it requires. Typically, the beds are professionally handled once in the Spring and Fall and once during mid-season. Occasionally, the HOA may hire professional weed control as needed in the mid-season. It's the in-between times that we rely on volunteers who want to help keep the entrance looking its best.

***No one is authorized to apply chemicals to treat weeds in the beds or turf areas or under the trees*** The professionals the HOA contracts with are the only ones authorized to use chemicals.
